Katy Meeuwissen is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Canberra, specializing in early childhood and primary education. With over a decade of teaching experience across ACT preschools and primary schools, she focuses on play-based learning and children's rights to play.
Meeuwissen's research examines teacher conceptualizations of play and international approaches to early childhood education. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. investigating how educators understand and implement play pedagogies. Professionally, she mentors early career teachers and advocates for policies prioritizing children's holistic development through play.
Her teaching emphasizes creating environments where children explore and develop lifelong learning dispositions. Meeuwissen's work bridges practical classroom experience with theoretical frameworks in early childhood pedagogy.
