Dr. Katrin Hurle is a Senior Lecturer at the Chair of Mineralogy, Geocenter North Bavaria, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Her research focuses on calcium phosphate cements for biomedical applications, particularly bone regeneration and dental prosthetics. She specializes in crystallographic analysis, hydration mechanisms, and material optimization using Rietveld refinement, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis techniques.
- Current research projects include 3D-printed Li-Brushite/silk fibroin nanocomposites funded by DAAD (2022-2024)
- Investigation of medical agent interactions with cements supported by DFG
- Crystallographic study of doped calcium phosphates
Her work explores the substitution of trace elements (Cu²⁺, Li⁺, Zn²⁺) in calcium phosphate phases and their impact on cement hydration behavior. She also develops advanced characterization methods like in-situ XRD and heat flow calorimetry for real-time reaction monitoring.
Key grants include:
- DAAD Individual Grant (2018-2020)
- DFG-funded research on mineralization mechanisms (2017-2020)
