Katlyn Meier serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami. She directs the Meier Lab, which employs physical techniques to investigate the molecular roles of metals in neurodegeneration, chemoresistance, and infection.
Research Focus: Her work centers on bioinorganic chemistry and advanced spectroscopy, examining metal complexes in biological systems. The lab utilizes spectroscopic methods to characterize electronic and magnetic properties of metals critical to photosynthesis, respiration, and disease mechanisms, with emphasis on first-row transition metals in catalytic and biological processes.
Academic Leadership: Professor Meier teaches Physical Chemistry I, Principles of Chemistry, and Principles of Spectroscopic Techniques. She actively recruits postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate researchers for projects spanning spectroscopy, bioinorganic chemistry, and computational quantum chemistry, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to metal-related biological phenomena.
