Katja Shimko

Dr. Katja Shimko is a Research Fellow affiliated with the University of Queensland through the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS). She holds a PhD in environmental and analytical chemistry and an MRes in Forensic Science.

Her research focuses on wastewater-based epidemiology and analytical method development for small molecules, with applications in public health and forensic analysis. She has collaborated with Sport Integrity Australia and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission on projects involving wastewater analysis and mass spectrometry libraries for drug contaminants.

Shimko has contributed to postdoctoral research at QAEHS on performance-enhancing drugs in wastewater, spanning Australia and the US. Her technical expertise includes liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, and high-resolution mass spectrometry.
