Katja Frimberger is a Senior Lecturer in Education Studies at the Strathclyde Institute of Education, University of Strathclyde, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research focuses on the philosophy of arts and aesthetic education, particularly exploring the formative roles of film and theatre through continental pedagogy, aesthetics, and theology. She has held roles such as Lecturer in Theatre at Brunel University London and Research Associate at the University of Glasgow on a £2 million AHRC-funded project.
Education: PhD in Aesthetic/Intercultural Education (University of Glasgow, 2013), M.A. Theatre Studies (University College Cork), M.Ed. in Education (Universität Hildesheim), and teacher training in Germany.
Research Interests: Philosophy of education, Brechtian pedagogy, film as public pedagogy, intercultural education, and multilingual research methods. She co-leads the PESGB Summer School and has published widely in journals like Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie and Journal of Philosophy of Education.
Awards: 2024 Heimspiel Award Nomination (BIFF), Senior Fellow HEA (2024), finalist National Lottery Award (2023), and multiple film festival recognitions. Her Little Animation Studio and Scotland Our New Home projects for care-experienced youth were funded by Creative Scotland and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Grants & Projects: Led AHRC-funded research on multilingualism and borders (2014–2016), contributed to Creative Multilingualism (2020–2022), and co-investigated ESRC projects (2023–2028). Her work bridges academia and practice through film collaborations with non-academic stakeholders.
