Prof. Dr. Katja Fiehler is a leading academic at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, where she holds the Chair of Experimental Psychology: Perception & Action since 2020. Her research bridges psychophysics, motion tracking, and neuroimaging (EEG/fMRI) to explore how sensory information shapes spatial perception and goal-directed movements.
- Education:
- Habilitation (2011), Venia legendi in Psychology, Philipps University Marburg
- PhD (2005), Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig
- Diploma in Psychology (2001), Technical University Dresden
Her work focuses on sensorimotor integration, tactile suppression, and predictive coding during tasks like grasping, pointing, and balance control. She investigates how visual, tactile, and proprioceptive signals interact with attention and working memory to refine movement execution. Recent studies leverage virtual reality and eye-tracking to simulate complex environments.
Project leadership includes DFG IRTG-1901 (The Brain in Action) and membership in the SFB/TRR-135 (Cardinal mechanisms of perception). Collaborative efforts span neuroimaging, VR tool development, and interdisciplinary research on aging and neuropsychiatric cohorts.
