Katie Wynne

Professor Katie Wynne is an academic and clinician in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She holds concurrent roles as Interim Head of School and Dean of the Joint Medical Program. Her academic background includes a PhD in Physiology from the University of London and clinical training at King's College London and Imperial College London. She has held senior academic appointments in the UK and Australia, including roles as Conjoint Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Human Physiology.

Research Interests:

Professor Wynne's work focuses on clinical endocrinology, particularly in transgender medicine, antenatal endocrinology, metabolic health, and diabetes management. She has pioneered studies on appetite control mechanisms, oxyntomodulin's role in weight regulation, and innovative interventions for obesity and gestational diabetes. Her research also addresses healthcare equity, including LGBTQ+ inclusive medical education and transgender healthcare delivery.

Grants & Funding:

Recipient of over $7.6 million in research funding, including a $1M Medical Research Future Fund grant for the COSMAT Study (co-designed shared model of care for gender-affirming hormone therapy). She has led studies on insulin protocols in pregnancy, smartwatch technology for diabetes management, and metabolic surgery outcomes.
