Katie Paterson

Katie Paterson is a theatremaker and practice-based research PhD graduate (Dr. as of 2024) at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She serves as the Interim Contextual Studies Module Coordinator for BA Production Arts and Senior Creative Practice Tutor at Mountview's MA Performance program. Her work focuses on queer feminist methodologies in contemporary performance, emphasizing lived experiences and embodied knowledge.

Research Interests: Katie explores how performance can validate marginalized narratives, particularly through cabaret and verbatim theatre. Her work interrogates intersections of gender, health, and bodily autonomy, using chaos and care as transformative practices. Recent projects include Side FX (a contraceptive cabaret) and Minor Disruptions (queer childhood narratives).

Key Contributions: Co-organizer of TaPRA Postgraduate Symposium 2022 and frequent presenter at academic conferences including UCL and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Teaching & Mentorship: Advises MA and BA students on self-led projects addressing structural inequality. Her pedagogy prioritizes contemporary performance practices and critical engagement with systemic barriers in the arts.
