Katie Milagros Duarte is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Latinx/a/o Studies at Smith College. Her research explores gendered narratives and identity-making processes among Latinx and Black communities, focusing on curly hair and the natural hair movement in Dominican populations across New York City and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She employs ethnographic observations and interviews in her work.

She contributes to research on intersectionality, Latinidad, and cultural practices tied to race, ethnicity, and gender. Outside academia, she enjoys visiting the Bronx Botanical Garden, cooking, and playing Nintendo Switch games.
