Katie McCallum is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) DA Operating Department Practice at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. She is affiliated with the Health Research Institute and holds a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her roles include teaching, curriculum leadership, and clinical education development.

Research Interests: Katie's work centers on surgical oncology, prehabilitation for colorectal surgery patients, and optimizing postoperative outcomes. She also explores challenges in aligning higher education with contemporary NHS practices. Additional areas include patient psychology during diagnosis and surgical interventions.
As a Clinical Educator (2016–2017), she contributed to regional projects like the South Yorkshire TAP initiative. She currently leads the Degree Apprenticeship Development for Operating Department Practice (since 2022). Her clinical expertise spans vascular, trauma, and pediatric surgery, paired with roles as an Immediate Life Support Instructor (Resuscitation Council UK) and External Examiner for another HEI.
