Katie Gibson Smith is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen's School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. She is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) with expertise in mixed methods research, focusing on medical education, doctor wellbeing, and widening access to medicine for underrepresented groups.

Her research spans medical education equity, particularly for widening participation students, minority ethnic and disabled doctors, and doctor resilience. She leads evaluations of the Gateway2Medicine program and has developed interventions for doctor wellbeing during the pandemic. Her work integrates educational theory, implementation science, and behavior change models to address healthcare access and self-care behaviors in offshore and homeless populations.
Recent publications analyze healthcare facility design, student identity strengths, and animation-based mental health tools. She has secured significant grant funding, including £197,080 from the Chief Scientist Office for pandemic-era doctor resilience interventions.
