Her research examines how media shapes public understanding of health crises, gender roles, and social responsibility. She analyzes epidemics like smallpox and influenza through historical media lenses, connecting past narratives to modern pandemic coverage. Her work intersects with cultural approaches to media, disability studies, and children’s marketing.
Key trends in her publications include health communication (media’s role in epidemics), gendered media analysis (breastfeeding, crime victimization), and television studies (medical dramas, disability portrayals). She has authored three books and co-edited two, with over two dozen peer-reviewed articles in journals like Health Communication and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly.
