Katie Chenoweth is a Professor at Princeton University affiliated with the Humanities Council and the Behrman Professors program. Her work bridges literature, philosophy, and media history, specializing in French Renaissance studies and contemporary continental thought. She is the author of The Prosthetic Tongue: Printing Technology and the Rise of the French Language, examining how print culture shaped the French language's standardization. Current research includes projects on philosophical quotation practices (Montaigne, Nietzsche, Benjamin), analyses of Jacques Derrida's intellectual practices through his personal library and manuscripts, and digital humanities initiatives.
Her research interests focus on the interplay between language, technology, and power, particularly through the lens of early modern France and 20th-century continental philosophy. Recent work explores translation theory, sovereignty discourses, and the materiality of writing. Chenoweth’s digital humanities projects leverage archival datasets to re-examine philosophical texts and practices.
Advising and grants involve fostering interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of literary studies, media archaeology, and critical theory. She directs collaborative research teams in digital humanities and serves on editorial boards for journals focused on Renaissance studies and continental philosophy.
