معرفی
Kathy Walsh is a Senior Research Scientist at the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Illinois, Urbana. She specializes in advanced microscopy techniques and nanomechanical characterization. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Physics from Michigan State University (2013), focusing on bacterial nanowires using scanning probe microscopy.
Her research emphasizes innovative applications of instruments such as atomic force microscopy, stylus profilometry, and optical profilometry. She explores nano/microscale properties of everyday materials and devises novel experimental approaches. Recent work spans magnetic thin films, polymer composites, and biomedical nanomaterials.
Key achievements include contributions to 3D-printed drug-eluting stents, microbial protein nanowire charge transport, and self-rolled-up RF transformers. Awards include the Future Academic Scholars in Teaching Fellowship (2011-2012) and GAANN Bioelectronics Training Fellowship (2011-2013). She holds a teaching certificate from Michigan State University.
Her career progression includes roles as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (2013-2016), Research Scientist (2016-2020), and her current Senior Research Scientist position (2020–present). She actively contributes to multidisciplinary projects at MRL, bridging materials science with biomedical and electronic applications.
