Kathy Burlew

Kathy Burlew is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati, where she researches substance abuse treatment and health disparities. As a substance abuse researcher, she develops and evaluates culturally tailored interventions to reduce HIV risk and improve treatment outcomes for minority populations.

Her research examines:

• Culturally adapted HIV prevention programs
• Long-term outcomes of family therapy for adolescent substance users
• Health disparities in addiction treatment
• Motivational enhancement therapies

Burlew has received numerous honors including the Kenneth and Mamie Clark Award for mentoring and the Distinguished Psychologist Award. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse and has led multiple NIH-funded clinical trials through NIDA's Clinical Trials Network. Her current projects focus on adapting substance abuse interventions for African American men and women.
