Kathryn Ramsey is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UWA Centre for Child Health Research and the UWA Medical School, affiliated with The Kids Research Institute Australia. She holds a PhD in Respiratory Medicine from The University of Western Australia (2013). Her research focuses on pediatric respiratory health, particularly cystic fibrosis, lung function assessment, and bronchiectasis in children. She leads the Children's Lung Health division and collaborates globally on lung disease mechanisms.
Key research interests include early-life respiratory health, lung function measurement standards, and clinical applications of lung clearance index. She has contributed to large cohort studies like the WAACHS Linked Data Study examining social determinants of child health. Her work aligns with UN SDGs 3 (Good Health) and 4 (Quality Education).
Recent projects include grants on bronchiectasis surveillance, cystic fibrosis lung disease mechanisms, and mucous pathophysiology. She actively mentors PhD candidates and oversees research projects at the Institute for Respiratory Health and NHMRC. Collaborations span pediatric pulmonology, epidemiology, and clinical microbiology.
Her lab develops standardized lung function testing protocols and investigates microbial dynamics in cystic fibrosis patients. Current work emphasizes translational research to improve outcomes for children with chronic lung diseases.
