Kathryn Kueny is a Professor of Theology at Fordham University, where she also serves as Director of the Middle East Studies and Religious Studies programs. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago's History of Religions program. Her research focuses on medieval Islamic thought, interfaith exchanges between Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions, methodological approaches in religious studies, and gender studies.
Education: BA (University of Wisconsin, Madison), MA Divinity (University of Chicago), PhD in History of Religions (University of Chicago).
Current research explores 'Ecologies of Health and Disease in Medieval Muslim Medicine, Law, Practice and Belief,' examining how medieval Muslim societies integrated physical, spiritual, and social dimensions to define health. Her publications include Conceiving Identities: Maternity in Medieval Muslim Discourse and Practice (2013) and The Rhetoric of Sobriety: Wine in Early Islam (2001).
Her work has been recognized with a 2014 American Academy of Religion Book Award Finalist designation. Ongoing projects continue to bridge religious studies with historical analysis of gender, medicine, and ecology.
