Kathryn James is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Organisations, Systems and People within the Faculty of Business & Law. Her expertise spans Operational Research, Quantitative Methods, and Healthcare Efficiency analysis. She holds a PhD in Operational Research from Swansea University (1999) and a BSc in Management Science (1994), both from Swansea University.
Her research interests include forecasting, education metrics, and performance analysis, with notable work on NHS efficiency and policy evaluation. She contributed to a 2022 study exploring antenatal care utilization in Bihar, India. Kathryn teaches analytics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and leads the Digital Business Management MSc program.
She previously served in the UK Government Operational Research Service, working on projects like education performance metrics and air passenger demand forecasting. Her work aligns with UN SDGs related to education and health. She co-leads the AI Leadership Skills Bootcamp project funded by Portsmouth City Council, focusing on artificial intelligence applications in urban contexts.
