Kathryn Grossman

Kathryn Grossman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Chicago (2013), an M.A. from the same institution (2005), and a B.A. from Tufts University (2003). Her research focuses on zooarchaeology and the archaeology of complex societies in the Near East and Eastern Mediterranean, with specialties in urbanization processes, animal-human relationships in early states, and prehistoric settlement patterns.

Current projects include directing the Makounta-Voules Archaeological Project in Cyprus and collaborating on excavations in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan. She has co-edited the final report on Tell Qarqur excavations and contributed to major projects like the Petra North Ridge Project and Wadi el-Hudi.

Teaching includes courses on archaeology, biological anthropology, and field methods. Her work blends field archaeology with digital education initiatives, as seen in her contributions to online museum pedagogy at the Oriental Institute.
