Kathryn Esparza

Dr. Kathryn Esparza is a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology (Clinical Educator) at the University of the Sunshine Coast, School of Health. She holds a PhD from the University of Queensland, a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Australian Catholic University, and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from ACU. Her expertise spans parenting, cross-cultural psychology, and mental health of migrant/refugee populations. She is a board-approved supervisor for psychologists and has experience in clinical practice, youth work, and behavior therapy for children with autism.

Research Focus: Kathryn’s work centers on parenting interventions, cross-cultural psychology, and mental health support for migrant families in Australia. Her PhD research explored psychological well-being of migrant/refugee families, supported by the Australian Postgraduate Award. She also investigates pandemic-related child development challenges and financial stress communication in families.

Teaching & Supervision: Teaches Advanced and Transcultural Counselling, Practicum Placements 3 & 4. Supervises HDR/Honours students in parenting across cultures and migrant mental health. Provides clinical supervision to psychologists and social workers supporting humanitarian migrants.

Public Engagement: Regular media contributor on child psychology topics, including ABC interviews on screen time impacts and financial stress communication.
