Kathryn Cavenaugh Knauer is an Adjunct Professor of Music and Voice at Furman University, where she teaches and performs. She holds a Master of Music in Voice and Opera Performance from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Furman University. Her professional activities include operatic roles such as 'Medora Payne' in Houston Grand Opera’s HARVEY MILK, 'Fiordiligi' in Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE, and soprano solos in works like Carl Orff’s CARMINA BURANA. She has collaborated with renowned artists including Sherill Milnes and directors like Francesca Zambello.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes natural voice development, healthy technical training, and fostering student uniqueness. She values the psychological connection with students to tailor instruction effectively. Ms. Knauer has been teaching since 2005, influenced by her mother Melanie Cavenaugh, a respected Houston singer and teacher.
