Kathryn Accurso is Associate Professor of Teaching in Language and Literacy Education at UNSW Built Environment, focusing on sustainable building design with emphasis on reducing embodied carbon, tall building architecture, and high-density housing at the University of British Columbia. Her research examines literacy development and equity-focused pedagogies for multilingual learners, integrating systemic functional linguistics with anti-racist approaches to teacher education.
Research emphases include:
- Critical literacies and anti-racist pedagogies in teacher education
- Systemic functional linguistics applications for disciplinary literacy
- Plurilingual approaches to supporting refugee-background students
- Decolonizing language education practices
