Kathryn A. Everly

Professor Kathryn A. Everly is a faculty member at Syracuse University’s Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. She specializes in contemporary Spanish literature, film, and culture, with affiliations in Women’s and Gender Studies, Latino-Latin American Studies, and Modern Foreign Languages. Her research focuses on feminist criticism, spatial theory, and intersections of art, politics, and history. She holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from the University of Texas at Austin (2000), an M.A. from New York University in Madrid (1993), and a B.A. in English Literature from Barnard College (1990).

Her research explores themes such as gender, memory, and cultural representation in Spanish contexts. Notable works include Catalan Women Writers and Artists (2003) and History, Violence, and the Hyperreal (2010). Recent scholarship examines spatiality in literature, queer surrealism, and archival silencing in the Spanish Civil War era. She has been awarded the MLA Florence Howe Award and grants from Spain’s Ministry of Culture and the CNY Humanities Corridor.

Everly serves as Executive Editor of Symposium: A Quarterly Journal in Modern Literatures and holds leadership roles in academic committees, including the Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Spanish MA Program Coordination. Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses on Spanish literature, cultural theory, and research methods.
