Kathrin Braun is an Adjunct Professor and Senior Researcher at the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC, concurrently serving as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences (Chair of Sociology of Technology and Environment), University of Stuttgart. Her academic trajectory includes a Habilitation (1999) and PhD (1992) in Political Science from Leibniz Universität Hannover, preceded by a Diploma in Social Sciences from Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg (1979–1985).
Her research critically examines intersections of technology, democracy, and society, with emphases on:
- Biopolitics, biomedical policy, and historical justice
- Ethics as governance mechanisms
- Civil society engagement in techno-scientific conflicts
- Political economies of digitalization in architecture/construction
Recent publications analyze sociotechnical imaginaries and value-creation dynamics in construction digitalization, highlighting tensions between innovation paradigms and societal equity. A consistent theme is the governance of emerging technologies through multi-stakeholder frameworks.

She coordinates projects at IntCDC including RP 10-1 (Architectural-Historical-Social Perspectives), RP 10-2 (Co-Design Methodologies), and RP 18-1/18-2 (Holistic Quality Models for buildings). As co-editor of Critical Policy Studies (since 2015), she shapes discourse in technology governance.
