Kathleen McDonough serves as an Associate Professor in the Education Department at Curry College, having previously taught graduate and undergraduate courses for elementary and special education preservice teachers at Wheelock College. Her academic career centers on preparing educators for equity-focused classroom practices within diverse learning environments.
Dr. McDonough's research specializes in developing teachers' sociopolitical consciousness and racial literacy to advance racial equity in K-12 schools. She designs and implements evidence-based diversity and equity professional development programs for Boston and Cambridge public school educators, while pioneering innovative collaborations with Arts Emerson and the American Repertory Theater through post-performance dialogue facilitation that connects theatrical narratives to educational justice frameworks.
Her scholarship integrates critical pedagogy with community-engaged practices, emphasizing transformative teacher education that addresses systemic inequities. Dr. McDonough actively pursues interdisciplinary partnerships at Curry College to expand her mission of cultivating racially conscious educators through curriculum development, professional workshops, and arts-based equity initiatives.
