Kathleen Marchal

Kathleen Marchal is a Professor at Ghent University, affiliated with both the Department of Plant Biotechnology & Bioinformatics and the Department of Information Technology (IDLab, IMEC). Her lab develops computational methods for systems biology and systems genetics data integration, with a focus on precision oncology.

Her research emphasizes network-based approaches for genotype-phenotype mapping, including applications of probabilistic pathfinding and network diffusion algorithms. She has co-authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications (SCI h-index: 34) and supervised more than 20 PhD students.

Collaborations include clinical partnerships at UZ Ghent and UZ Antwerp hospitals, where she coordinates genome-driven precision oncology initiatives. Her work combines bioinformatics, data integration, and computational biology techniques to address complex biological problems.
