Kathleen Lane is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia's School of Health Sciences. She is affiliated with multiple research groups including Volunteering and Health and Social Care, Dementia & Complexity in Later Life, Epidemiology and Public Health, and Health Promotion. Her work focuses on public health challenges in care environments, healthcare ethics during pandemics, and the impact of volunteering programs on wellbeing. She has collaborated with organizations like UKHSA/OHID and the Burdett Trust for Nursing on projects addressing infection control, nursing resilience, and employer-supported volunteering initiatives.
Her research interests emphasize participatory ageing, pandemic preparedness in care settings, and the psychological and ethical dimensions of healthcare work. Key projects include the UCAIRE study on infection experiences in care homes and the THRIVE initiative supporting care home nurses' mental wellbeing. She has published extensively on topics like ethical conundrums faced by nursing staff during the pandemic and longitudinal analysis of care home staff preparedness.
Lane has led or contributed to 17 research projects funded by governmental and non-profit organizations. Her work bridges academic research with practical healthcare solutions, particularly in aging populations and infection control strategies. She actively engages in collaborative networks to inform health policies and improve care delivery systems.
