Dr. Kathleen Blee is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on social movements, particularly far-right and racist/anti-Semitic movements in the U.S. and Europe, racial violence, and microsociological dynamics. She leads a National Institute of Justice-funded project studying white supremacist activists' disengagement over five years, alongside research on urban bus riding as a lens for spatial and cultural interactions.

- BA, Indiana University, 1974
Her work explores gender roles within extremist groups, the psychological and structural barriers to leaving hate movements, and the micro-level mechanisms of racial violence. Recent studies emphasize disengagement pathways and the sociological implications of hate group dynamics.
Publications since 2020 highlight her focus on white supremacist women's roles, disengagement processes, and the intersection of gender and extremism. Ongoing projects integrate ethnographic methods with longitudinal interviews to understand how individuals exit extremist ideologies.
