Kathleen Auld is a Lecturer (Research) in Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management at the World Maritime University. She holds a Ph.D. in International Trade and Fisheries Law from the University of Cape Town, with additional degrees in Commercial Law, LLB, and BCom. Her research examines the intersection of international trade law, fisheries management, and ocean governance.
Current research focuses on:
- International instruments to combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing
- Socio-economic dimensions of fisheries subsidies and trade agreements
- Regulatory frameworks for small-scale fisheries
- Implementation challenges in developing coastal states
As part of the ICAPFISH project, Auld builds capacity to address IUU fishing in developing countries and small island states. Her publications critically analyze WTO fisheries subsidies agreements, port state measures, and equity considerations in fisheries policy. Recent work assesses regulatory frameworks in Chile and South Africa, emphasizing vulnerability reduction in small-scale fishing communities.
