Dr. Katherine Perry is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Soka University of America. She specializes in graph theory, combinatorics, and design theory, with a focus on symmetry parameters, network partitioning, and algorithm optimization. Perry holds a PhD from Auburn University and previously served as a postdoc at the University of Denver. Her research explores topics like distinguishing numbers in graphs, antimagic orientations, and extremal problems in network science.
Her educational background includes a BA from Scripps College, MS and PhD from Auburn University, and postdoctoral work with Paul Horn. She teaches courses such as discrete mathematics, linear algebra, and network science. Perry's work has been supported by grants including the AWM Travel Grant and the University of Denver Internationalization Grant.
Research highlights include contributions to Mycielskian graph analysis, rainbow spanning trees, and game theory applications like Cops and Robbers. She has supervised student research, including capstone projects by Mahir Anand, Nina Battioni, and Devin Weber. Perry is active in the U.S.-Africa Collaborative Research Network and recently published work on perfect k-ary tree spectra.
Her awards include the Soka University Teaching Fellowship (2025) and recognition for teaching excellence during her graduate studies. Perry's interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical mathematics with applications in cybersecurity, robotics, and data science.
