Katherine Echols is an Instructional Professor and Honors Program Chair in the Department of Liberal Studies at Texas A&M University at Galveston. She specializes in media studies, focusing on radio’s cultural impact, particularly during the 1930s–1950s. Her research examines literary adaptations to radio, with a keen interest in Arthurian legends, Robin Hood narratives, and gender roles in media. Echols holds a Ph.D. in British and American Literature (University of Houston, 2015), an M.A. in English (Sam Houston State University, 2007), and a B.A. in Journalism and English (Abilene Christian University, 1997).
Her teaching includes courses such as Technical Business Writing, Composition and Rhetoric, and Women Writers. She emphasizes fostering a lifelong love of learning among students. Beyond academia, she values family time with her grandchildren and is an avid reader and book collector.
Echols has authored books and articles on radio adaptations, including American Radio Adaptations of the Robin Hood and King Arthur Legends (2017) and “The Monster’s Transformation on Radio” (2018). Her work has been recognized with awards like the Wyman H. Herendeen Award (2013) and the LSCS-North Harris Adjunct Faculty Teacher Excellence Award (2008).
Her research presentations span topics like Victorian writers on radio, gender in Gothic radio dramas, and medieval literature’s modern reinterpretations. Echols’ interdisciplinary approach bridges literature, media, and cultural history, offering fresh insights into how technology shapes societal narratives.
