Katherine Demuth is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University, where she serves as founding Director of the Child Language Lab and Director of the Centre for Language Sciences (CLaS). Her research spans Language Acquisition, focusing on phonological, morphological, and syntactic development in both typically developing children and those with language impairments, alongside crosslinguistic studies of second-language learners.

Her recent work includes computational models of language acquisition, analysis of Mandarin infant-directed speech, studies on auditory processing in deaf/hard-of-hearing children, and prosodic cues in syntactic disambiguation. Projects highlight collaborations on early language programs in Indigenous communities, neural mechanisms of grammatical morphology, and auditory stimulus system development. She actively contributes to understanding how language structure informs acquisition processes across diverse populations.
