Katherine Carroll Britt, PhD, RN is an Assistant Professor in Gerontological Nursing at the University of Iowa. With over 20 years of nursing experience spanning pediatrics to gerontology, her work focuses on identifying lifestyle factors like spirituality and religious involvement to improve outcomes for individuals with dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and their caregivers. She holds leadership roles as Vice Chair Elect for Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO) and Co-Convener of the Religion, Spirituality, and Aging Interest Group for the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).
- Education: Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania; PhD from University of Texas at Austin; MSN (Informatics) from University of Texas at Tyler; BSN from Belmont University
Her research explores mechanisms linking spirituality to health outcomes through sleep and systemic inflammation, with a focus on underrepresented populations. Funded projects include support from PARC at University of Pennsylvania, Jonas Philanthropies, and Duke National Survey of Religious Leaders.
Dr. Britt has presented at major conferences including Alzheimer’s Association International Conferences and the Gerontological Society of America meetings. Her work emphasizes cognitive care planning strategies to enhance family preparedness for Alzheimer’s disease.
