Katherine BRYANT is a Research Fellow at Aix-Marseille University, working with the DePhy (Development and Phylogeny) team and collaborating with Adrien Meguerditchian at the Laboratoire de Psychologie Cognitive (LPC) and Olivier Coulon at the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone (INT).
Her educational background includes a PhD in evolutionary neuroanatomy and architectonics from Emory University's Yerkes Primate Research Center, supervised by Todd Preuss.
Dr. BRYANT's research focuses on anatomical changes in baboon brain development from birth to adulthood, with critical emphasis on lateralization of grey and white matter. This work provides foundational insights into the evolutionary substrates of human language. She extends these analyses to model primate species to generate comparative neuroimaging resources, ultimately aiming to develop brain organization atlases that elucidate large-brain evolution across mammalian taxa.
Her scientific achievements include:
- 2023 ILCB post-doc fellowship
- Marie Skłodowska Curie Independent Fellowship
Through these fellowships, she secured advanced training in comparative neuroimaging with Rogier Mars at Radboud University and the University of Oxford, resulting in comprehensive white matter atlases for chimpanzees and gibbons. Her current ILCB fellowship directly funds her baboon development research.
She actively contributes to the DePhy research team, which investigates developmental and phylogenetic processes in biological systems.
