Katharina Tchelidze is a Research Associate at the Professorship for Art History within the Institute of Philosophy and Art History (IPK) at Leuphana University of Lüneburg. Her work is deeply rooted in the interdisciplinary study of art history as cultural science, with a particular focus on the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century.
Research Interests: Her scholarly pursuits center on art history as cultural science, delving into the complexities of Georgian modernism and the H2SO4 group active in Georgia during the 1920s. Her research explores the intersections of naive art, primitivism, and counter-primitivism, examining how these movements challenged and redefined artistic norms in the post-revolutionary context.
Projects: She is the Scientific Project Manager for the ongoing dissertation project "Transmoderne Formationen – Die Gruppe H2SO4 in Georgien der 1920er" (Transmodern Formations – The H2SO4 Group in Georgia in the 1920s), which critically examines the cultural and artistic outputs of this collective. The project is currently in its initial phase and has not yet commenced active research.
Activities: Tchelidze actively contributes to the academic community by organizing and participating in conferences and seminars. Notably, she was involved in the International Conference Dedicated to the Centenary of the H2SO4, as well as educational workshops and seminars such as "Naive Kunst, Primitivismus und Gegen-Primitivismus" and "Einführung in die Kunstwissenschaft als Kulturwissenschaft".
