Katharina Resch

Katharina Resch is a Professor of Educational Sciences at the Upper Austria University of Teacher Education (PH OÖ), affiliated with the Institute of Secondary Education. Her academic career includes roles such as Habilitation in Education at the University of Vienna (2018–2024) and visiting professorships, including at the University of Koblenz-Landau (2021). She holds a Master’s in Sociology and a PhD from the University of Vienna, with additional study at Dickinson College in the U.S.

Her research focuses on educational sociology, higher education didactics, service-learning, and inclusive education. Key projects include addressing the teacher shortage through qualitative studies on retired teacher re-engagement and career changers, as well as mentoring cultures in teacher training. She coordinates the ‘Learning through Engagement’ school network in Upper Austria and chairs the Educational Sociology Section of the Austrian Sociological Association.

Resch has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, focusing on topics like hackathon pedagogy, first-generation student experiences, and German language support policies. Her publications span journals such as Active Learning in Higher Education and European Educational Research Journal. She also edited works on inclusive schooling and teacher education policy.

Her academic contributions include grants coordination, research advisory roles at PH OÖ, and editorial work. Resch emphasizes bridging theory and practice in teaching, particularly through service-learning initiatives and partnerships with schools. She actively participates in policy implementation studies, teacher professionalization research, and diversity competency development for educators.
