Katharina Mausolf is a Researcher at the Institute for Ecosystem Research (IÖF) within Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, specializing in Geobotany / Applied Ecology and Palaeoecology. She has held this position since March 2019, serving as the scientific coordinator of the FraDiv project.
Education:
- M.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences from Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel (2008–2013)
- PhD in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation from Leuphana University Lüneburg (2014–2019)
Her research focuses on temperate deciduous forest ecosystems, particularly the interactions between trees and their environment, biodiversity-ecosystem functioning dynamics, and the impacts of ash dieback disease. She employs dendroecological methods, fine root analyses, and isotope analyses to study these systems.
Recent publications highlight her work on forest resilience to climate extremes, managed vs. unmanaged forest dynamics, and ash dieback's cascading effects on biodiversity. Her methodologies combine observational studies and experimental approaches.
Scientific Awards:
- PhD scholarship from German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU)
She has previously worked at Leuphana University Lüneburg (2017–2019) and maintains active research collaborations across German forest ecosystems.
