Katharina Erhardt

Katharina Erhardt is a Professor of Economic Policy, especially Trade and Competition Policy, at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) within the Faculty of Business and Economics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. She joined HHU in 2021 after completing postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and ETH Zurich. Her academic journey began with a B.Sc. in International Management from the University of Flensburg, followed by an M.Sc. in International Economics and Worldwide Studies from the University of Tübingen, and culminated in a doctorate from ETH Zurich.

Her research focuses on international trade, economic policy, globalization, and competition policy, with particular emphasis on understanding how trade policies affect firms and regions. She examines the distributional consequences of globalization on individual firms, regions, and labor markets, and investigates firms' integration in international production networks. Her work combines theoretical modeling with rigorous empirical analysis using firm-level data.

Professor Erhardt's research has resulted in numerous publications in top economics journals including Quantitative Economics, European Economic Review, The Economic Journal, and Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. Her work has been recognized with Best Paper Awards at the GEP/CEPR Annual Postgraduate Conference and the Annual Congress of the SSES 2019.

She maintains active research affiliations as a Research Affiliate at CESifo and serves on the Managing Board of the European Trade Study Group.
