Kate Young

Dr. Kate Young is a Research Fellow at Queensland University of Technology's Faculty of Health, School of Public Health & Social Work. With a PhD from Monash University and background in psychology and public health, she specializes in implementation science to drive healthcare innovation in Australian health services and communities. Her mixed-methods research approach combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies including in-depth interviews, Photovoice, population surveys, and randomized-controlled trials.

Young's research focuses on:

• Increasing value in hospital/healthcare systems
• Co-designing support services with consumers
• Health equity initiatives
• Psychosocial impacts of pediatric brain tumors
• Women's health experiences

She maintains affiliations with the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) and Centre for Healthcare Transformation, and holds adjunct positions at QUT Design Lab.

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on pediatric oncology and women's health, with recent work (2020-2024) concentrated on psychosocial impacts of childhood brain tumors on families. Earlier research (2013-2019) examined maternity care practices and endometriosis treatment experiences.

As a science communicator, Young has contributed to ABC Radio National, The Drum, The Guardian, and SBS Online. She maintains professional memberships in the Women in Public Health network, International Society of Critical Health Psychology, Psycho-oncology Cooperative Research Group, and Queensland Collaborative for Cancer Survivorship.
