Kate Upton is an Associate Professor of Finance and Director of the William Garrard Reed Finance Center at Elon University's Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. She holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Alabama (2014) and has expertise in investment management, sustainable finance, and financial markets. Her research focuses on mutual funds, actively managed ETFs, and ESG investing, with notable studies on fund flow dynamics and regulatory impacts. She has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications and frequently presents at conferences like the Southern Finance Association and Financial Management Association.
Upton is actively involved in academic service, serving on editorial boards (e.g., Journal of Business Research), and leading initiatives such as the Data Competency QEP Committee. She has received multiple awards for teaching, mentoring (including the Steven and Patricia House Excellence in Mentoring Award), and service. Her teaching portfolio includes courses like Sustainable Finance, Financial Modeling with Excel, and Fixed Income Analysis.
