Kate Thomson is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) specializing in History and English at the University of Gloucestershire. She holds a BEd Hons in Primary Education from the University of Cambridge (1988) and has over three decades of experience in education, including roles as a subject leader in Geography and History, and as an Advisory Teacher for History and Geography in Gloucestershire.

Her teaching focuses on resource-rich, active learning approaches, with an emphasis on curriculum design and planning for progression in children’s learning. She has developed innovative models for cross-curricular planning and embedded school-based training to enhance student teachers’ learning. She is a member of the Historical Association and serves as Deputy Chair of Governors at a primary school in Gloucestershire. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical, classroom-tested strategies.
