Dr. Kate Temoney serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Religion at Montclair State University, with additional roles as Special Advisor to the Provost for Interdisciplinary Initiatives. She holds affiliations with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Committee on Ethics, Religion, and the Holocaust, and co-edits Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal. Her research focuses on intersections of religion, human rights, and mass atrocities, with fieldwork in over 10 countries.
Temoney earned a PhD in Religion from Florida State University (2015), preceded by an MEd from William & Mary (1999) and a BA from Wake Forest University (1997). Her pedagogical background includes over 15 years of teaching Religious Ethics, Genocide Studies, and African Religions, alongside administrative leadership roles in student affairs and academic departments.
Her scholarship critically examines religious dimensions of genocide prevention, post-conflict reconciliation, and the role of faith-based actors in atrocity mitigation. Notable works include analyses of Rwanda's post-genocide memory landscape, intersections of white supremacy and religious rhetoric, and theoretical frameworks for understanding genocide's theological underpinnings.
