Kate Szerlag is an Assistant Professor in Soil & Water Chemistry at Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. Her research focuses on soil phosphorus chemistry, employing synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and wet chemical experiments to study phosphorus speciation, solubility, and mobility in soils and water. She investigates impacts of sea level rise on phosphorus dynamics, strategies to enhance phosphorus availability in agricultural soils, and high-phosphorus soil systems. Dr. Szerlag is affiliated with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and holds office at HPCT 618B.
- Education:
- B.S., Environmental Science, University of Massachusetts - Amherst
- M.S., Environmental Conservation (Water, Wetlands and Watersheds), University of Massachusetts - Amherst (2016)
- Ph.D., Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Delaware (2021)
Her work bridges fundamental soil chemistry with applied agricultural and environmental challenges. She advises graduate student Victor Akuku and contributes to interdisciplinary efforts within Texas A&M AgriLife.
