Kate Shannon is an Associate Professor of Art at The Ohio State University Mansfield, specializing in digitally manipulated photography and its intersection with historical and contemporary themes. She teaches image-based studio courses and explores how technology reshapes image creation and consumption. Her work addresses memory, gender equity, and human experience through art.
Education: MFA, The Ohio State University; BFA, University of Kentucky.
Research & Awards: Recipient of the Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Grant and multiple teaching/scholarship awards. Presented research on 19th-century photography at the Daguerreian Society’s 2024 Symposium. Current projects reimagine historical images using modern tools.
Curatorial Work: Organized exhibitions like When This You See, Remember Me (2024) and Lifted (2019). Writing focuses on visual culture and art processes.
Recognition: Named Ohio State’s Artist Laureate for 2025-2026.
