Dr. Kate Miller is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Immunology at James Cook University (JCU), within the College of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds an affiliation with the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine. Her academic journey includes a PhD from the Australian National University (1992) focusing on drug resistance in sheep liver fluke, followed by postdoctoral research at The University of Queensland and the University of Technology Sydney. Her current teaching responsibilities include Immunology and Microbiology courses for dental students.
Dr. Miller’s research spans parasitology, inflammation biology, and dental biomaterials. Key interests include understanding host-parasite interactions, inflammatory mechanisms in dental implants (osseointegration), and developing novel anti-inflammatory therapies. Recent work explores the microbiome of preterm infants and the application of advanced materials for bone tissue engineering.
Her publication trends reveal a focus on dental materials science (e.g., zirconia composites), microbiome analysis (preterm infant gut studies), and immunological assays (T-cell stimulation protocols). Collaborative projects include investigations into probiotic efficacy in neonates and the optimization of antimicrobial strategies for periodontitis.
Dr. Miller’s work often bridges basic science and clinical applications, with interdisciplinary collaborations in immunology, microbiology, and engineering. She actively contributes to JCU’s research initiatives and dental education programs.
