Kate McGarry is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Psychology and Childhood Studies in the Department of Health and Behavioural Sciences at Newman University. She holds a doctorate in Developmental Neuropsychology from the University of Birmingham and specializes in EEG methodologies. Her research focuses on mother-infant interactions in emotional disorders, social processing, and theory of mind, with a current NHS collaboration studying social support and bariatric surgery outcomes. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and holds administrative roles as Programme Leader and Ethics Link Tutor.

Research interests include exploring how emotion-based disorders like depression/anxiety impact infant/maternal behaviors, cultural/gender/age influences on theory of mind, and neurodevelopmental mechanisms of speech processing.
