Kate McGarry

Kate McGarry is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Psychology and Childhood Studies in the Department of Health and Behavioural Sciences at Newman University. She holds a doctorate in Developmental Neuropsychology from the University of Birmingham and specializes in EEG methodologies. Her research focuses on mother-infant interactions in emotional disorders, social processing, and theory of mind, with a current NHS collaboration studying social support and bariatric surgery outcomes. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and holds administrative roles as Programme Leader and Ethics Link Tutor.

• Education: PhD in Developmental Neuropsychology (University of Birmingham)

Research interests include exploring how emotion-based disorders like depression/anxiety impact infant/maternal behaviors, cultural/gender/age influences on theory of mind, and neurodevelopmental mechanisms of speech processing. Her work integrates developmental, cognitive, and clinical perspectives.

Publications span developmental psychology and neuroscience, emphasizing EEG-based studies and meta-analyses of maternal-infant dynamics. She actively participates in international conferences, presenting findings on infant EEG asymmetries and neurodevelopmental processes.
