She also serves as the Assistant Program Director for Biological Sciences. Her work focuses on science education research, particularly on promoting equitable teaching practices to improve student retention in STEM fields and providing authentic science experiences.
- Stanford University, B.A. in Biology and Music
- Florida State University, Ph.D.
Kate Hill’s research examines student conceptions of evolution in introductory biology courses and the development of inquiry-based teaching methods. Her work aims to bridge gaps in student understanding of evolutionary concepts and enhance pedagogical strategies for transitioning students into undergraduate science education. She has conducted fieldwork in marine ecology, studying communities in marine sponges in Panamá, Belize, and the Florida Keys.
Her recent publications analyze student perceptions of evolution and the impact of assessment framing on learning outcomes. These works emphasize cognitive biases, genetic variation understanding, and the integration of educational psychology into curriculum design.
