Dr. Kate Cerulli is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Rochester and Director of the Laboratory of Interpersonal Violence and Victimization. She also directs the Susan B. Anthony Center, focusing on translating social determinants of health research into actionable practices. Her career combines legal, public health, and mental health perspectives to address vulnerabilities stemming from economic, safety, and legal issues. Dr. Cerulli holds a dual role as a licensed attorney and researcher, with over four decades of experience advocating for victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) through counseling, legal work, and community-based participatory research.
Her international work spans Russia, China, Mongolia, India, and the Greater Mekong region, supported by NIH Fogarty International Center, WHO, and the Fulbright Specialist Program. Key research interests include violence prevention, mental health disparities, and integrating health-legal services. Dr. Cerulli’s contributions include co-founding an innovative medical-law program in 2016 to serve IPV victims and developing evidence-based interventions for underserved populations. She emphasizes rigorous evaluation of service programs to ensure real-world impact.
Her research encompasses trauma-informed care models, sleep disturbances in violence survivors, and policy strategies to address suicide and violence. Dr. Cerulli’s work bridges academic and applied settings, fostering collaboration between researchers, survivors, and policymakers to drive systemic change.
