Katalin Pataki is a Research Fellow at the Institute of History, HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities in Budapest. She holds a PhD from Central European University (2020) and focuses on early modern fiscal-military systems and the interplay between secular authorities and religious institutions. Her current work explores sovereignty negotiations in Central Eastern Europe since 1780 as part of an ERC-funded project.

Her research interests include military entrepreneurship networks in Vienna, monastic material culture (apothecaries), and colonial taxation practices. She has held fellowships at institutions including the University of Cambridge and Charles University. Recent work examines how local actors renegotiated Vienna's centralized policies in Habsburg realms.
Publications analyze monastic prisons' role in church-state dynamics. Awards include CEU Doctoral Research Support Grant and Visegrad Fund Grant.
Previously taught academic writing at Asian University for Women (Bangladesh), developing projects on 18th-century Bengal tax systems. Active in transnational research networks, including the Leibniz Institute of European History.
