Kasper Kepsu is a Docent and Project Researcher in Nordic History at the Department of Culture, History and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology, Åbo Akademi University. His work focuses on early modern urban and social history in the Nordic and Baltic regions, particularly the historical town of Nyen during the Swedish era.
His research interests include urban governance, elite formation, migration, military-economic relations, and expulsion practices in Northern Europe between 1450 and 1900. He examines how urban burghers, state authorities, and military institutions interacted, especially during wartime, and how migration and ethnic identity shaped urban societies.
The recent publications and projects indicate a strong focus on the socioeconomic and political roles of urban elites, particularly in Nyen. His work spans interdisciplinary themes connecting history, sociology, and political science, with a methodological emphasis on archival research and historical analysis.
